Europeans believed in culture, economic and military supremacy of their nation.

 

 

Nationalist assured people

if war broke out, their nation would emerge victorious.

 

 

Imperialism was seen as a race to aquire the last territories open for colonisation.

 

 

Imperial instability helped contribute to the European tensions.

 

 

Prior to WW1,  Britain was the worlds dominant imperial power occuping one quater of the globe.

 

 

 Colonial rivarly had led to

 a naval arms race between Britian and Germany.

 

 

Over 85% of men in France and 50% in Germany had served in the army ot navy.
